Kenya Extends Halt on US-Linked Ebola Facility Amid Legal Challenge

(MENAFN) A Kenyan court has prolonged the suspension of a planned US-linked Ebola quarantine facility at Laikipia Air Base for an additional three weeks and ordered authorities to release documents related to the project.

According to reports, Justice Patricia Nyaundi ruled on Tuesday that concerns raised in a constitutional case challenging the facility require further examination before any work or operations can move forward.

The court instructed the government to publicly disclose the agreement and supporting documentation associated with the proposed Ebola center ahead of the next hearing.

As stated by reports, the judge also maintained previous orders blocking the establishment and operation of the facility, including any plans to receive individuals exposed to Ebola, until the legal proceedings continue.

The project has drawn significant public attention and sparked protests in recent weeks, with reports indicating that demonstrations connected to the issue resulted in two deaths.

The latest ruling ensures that the facility remains inactive while the court reviews legal and constitutional questions surrounding the project and its implementation.
